Museum ontkent aankoop Bugatti

De Bugatti 57SC Atlantic uit 1936, die veilinghuis Gooding & Company voor een bedrag tussen de $ 30.000.000,- en $ 40.000.000,- verkocht, is niet gekocht door het Mullin Automotive Museum. Dat schrijft het museum in een brief als reactie op de foutieve berichtgeving:

I am writing to you to address some misinformation that I have read in the media over the past 24 hours relating to the sale of the Dr. Peter Williamson 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic and the Mullin Automotive Museum. Most specifically, I am reacting to an online media report that states that the Mullin Automotive Museum is the purchaser of the Atlantic – which is not true. This particular article was well-crafted and captured international attention but misstates the facts. As you can imagine we have considered how this error was created and suspect that there has been a transposition of information based upon a private conversation that the museum had with the buyer. The truth is that the Atlantic’s buyer has contacted the Mullin Automotive Museum and suggested that we may have the opportunity to display the Atlantic, on a limited basis, later this year. As you can imagine, this would be an extraordinary opportunity that we would gladly accept, if offered. However, as stated in Gooding & Company’s release, the buyer wishes to remain anonymous. This is a wish that we, too, must respect.
In light of the above, I would appreciate you taking prompt action to contact the relevant members of the media to address the erroneous information currently being disseminated.

De nieuwe eigenaar wenst anoniem te blijven. Het gerucht ging dat hij als tussenpersoon optrad voor het museum. Het misverstand lijkt veroorzaakt door de intentie van de nieuwe eigenaar om de Bugatti later dit jaar tentoon te stellen in het museum.
